Weapon class types for units |

Lets talk about the weapon types for Clan Units:
The standard classes are:
[ul]
[li] LI (Light Infantry)[/li]
[li] MI (Medium Infantry)[/li]
[li] HI (Heavy Infantry)[/li]
[li] LM (Light Missile) - Hand throne weapons[/li]
[li] MM (Medium Missile) - Cross Bow, standard Bob[/li]
[li] HM (Heavy Missile) - Think English Long Bow or Recurve Bow[/li]
[/ul]
Now the "Infantry" types have a "Damage" value and a "Defense" value. Thus the Damage value is the amount of damage inflicted in a combat round, and the Defense value is the amount of protection their armor protects against in a combat round. Next the "Missile" types have a "Damage" Value, a "Defense" value, and a "Range" Value. The Range value is how far that they can inflict damage at a existence.
Weapon Chart:
Wpn Type:, Damage:, Defense:, Range:
[ul]
[li]LI 1 1 0[/li]
[li]MI 2 2 0[/li]
[li]HI 3 3 0[/li]
[li]LM 1 1 1[/li]
[li]MM 2 1 3[/li]
[li]HM 3 1 5[/li]
[/ul]
Note: a "0" means face to face
Now in different versions of the game like Midgard USA there were also Combined Arms types:
LI/LM
LI/MM
MI/LM
MI/MM
Note: These were learned by learning to do each of these types separately in game, or by a factional perk. Some factions had special abilities to arm themselves with some of these combinations.
So lets talk about the this topic. The terms might actually be titled slightly differently (Damage, Defense, Range) but it gets the Idea across.
Now I am not really talking about factional benefits here just the Weapons Type classes and related details.

I know that I can subscribe to forums/threads for email notification, but can this software support replying to threads via email as well?
(FYI, the reply-to addresses that I saw in my notifications said it was from "PlayByMail.Bet".)

Any programmers out there? |

Decades ago, while playing Galac-Tac, I wrote a gaming assistant program to help me play. This has morphed over the years to be quite a valuable tool with customizable and interactive color maps, turn history tracking, order entry and checking, empire analysis reports, and much more. However, Midgard has never had any such thing available for players. Since we'd all like to encourage more players to play, this would be a great thing to have available to everyone.
So, if you feel like a real programming and gaming challenge, I invite anyone to write their own Midgard "helper" program, either for desktop/laptop PCs or for phones/tablets. Anyone who thinks they've come up with something useful is welcome to provide it for publication it on the Talisman Games web site for you so other players can download and use it. All of the turn information is available in XML format so you don't have to do any interpretation of formatted HTML to get raw data into your system.
Be thinking about the possibilities and see what your imagination might be able to come up with!

Player communications |

I'd like to use this forum to answer any Midgard gaming questions you have, particularly about features of our new implementation.
For instance, in the old days if you wanted to get in touch with another player to discuss coordination of turns, you had to send in a paper 3x5 card in the mail to be forwarded to them in their next monthly cycle report.
On the web, this is handled differently. Instead, you have a screen with which you can send a personally-anonymous private message directly to their game screen. This uses their clan name for delivery and your clan name as sender and does not reveal any of your personal information. You may, of course, tell them who you are and how to contact you if you wish more direct communication, but that's not necessary to get real-time messages across.
Such incoming messages appear on your game screen on the web the next time you visit. However, on each player's Talisman Games profile there is an option where you can select to be notified by email when such messages arrive for you. If you have that turned on then incoming messages are forwarded to your email instantly, so you can respond rapidly.

I had an enjoyable time playing for two months. The GM has decided to end the game. I will be writing an article about my experience for S&D Issue #20.
It is always sad to see a PBM end. Human-run PBMs are fragile, and this is always a risk that players must face when joining a game that is not automated.
Thank you to Roy Pollard for running the game. I am glad I had the opportunity to participate.
