Discontinuation of e-mail notification of PBM News Blurbs
Posted by: GrimFinger - 05-04-2011, 04:51 AM - Forum: News & Announcements - Replies (2)

Up until yesterday, I had been using the forum software's mail feature to notify all registered site users by e-mail, whenever I posted a new PBM News Blurb. One site user has asked to be removed from my e-mail list, and I can only assume that the PBM News Blurb notification is what he was referring to.

I may try to come up with something different, or just not notify anyone, when a new PBM News Blurb is posted. As a general rule of thumb, I have no interest in creating any e-mail headaches for site users.

Motivated by ixnay, I will try to spin a story here. Please be forgiving, English is not my native tongue...
---
Long time ago, somewhere in this galaxy, a child was born.

It slowly managed to use its senses and became aware of its surroundings. Constantly growing, it expanded on land and dove into oceans, dissipated itself in earth and spread in the air, finally reaching the edge of atmosphere and touched the void. That was the barrier that stopped the growth, at least for a while. Looking at the sun with curiosity, but feeling trapped, the child started to experiment with itself, adjusting, changing and modifying its bodies. Finally, it understood how to achieve propulsion; eager to try that new skill it spread throughout its home system.

Time passed and the child slowly learned. It has no one to interact with, to learn from, thus was never able to pass another obstacle - speed of light. Using sub-light speeds it launched parts of itself into the vast interstellar space and was able to barely reach the neighboring stars, but the effort felt empty. These star systems were devoid of intelligent life; boredom grow and desperation started to surface.

This all changed at the beginning of TURN 10, when Tilkatian scout ship appeared out of nowhere in the home system.

Surprise was complete. Boredom has vanished, replaced by curiosity and excitement! It rose to the challenge, swiftly rushing to meet the visitor. Absorbing full-spectrum emissions of the tiny scout vessel, it tried to make sense out of it. After penetrating the Tilkatian shields, surface of actual ship was also a subject to poking and prodding. Finally, with mutual effort, contact was achieved. The child had met friends, learned to communicate and received a name! Tilkatans called it "The Mold" and it liked that.

... to be continued ...

Gad Games
Sean Cleworth has a glimpse of the new world map for Ilkor: Dark Rising posted, over on the Gad Games blog. Clicking on the map image displayed there at 8.33% of actual size only yields a small thumbnail image, however.

-----

Briny En Garde!
Brying En Garde! is kicking off, with a cast of 33 player-controlled characters debuting at game start. Also, a new Online Orders Submission Form is now available to players, to facilitate making it convenient for players to get their turn orders submitted for processing.

-----

Sardarthion Press
The Cruenti Dei forum has been abuzz with activity, of late, and I even ran in to an old Hyborian War player (Hemmy) while visiting there, also.

-----

Pegasus Productions
The website for the company that runs Alamaze continues to be down. No word, yet, on why - or on whether the site and the game will be coming back.

-----

Flying Buffalo, Inc.
I recently received an e-mail from John Meyers, who was responding to a previous interview outreach for players of Flying Buffalo's PBM games. John describes himself as an ardent PB(E)M fan – spending 30 to 40 hours a week on it.

-----

Rolling Thunder Games
Dropping by the Rolling Thunder Forum, I encounter only a smattering of new postings, since my last visit there.

-----

Project Libertine
Things have been kind of quiet for a little over a week, over at the Project Libertine Development Blog. Hatch has been on holidays, it appears, but he says in his last blog posting there that he is back.

  I'm back!
Posted by: GrimFinger - 05-01-2011, 04:14 AM - Forum: Website Related - Replies (1)

I seem to have taken a rather unexpected and undesired vacation away from the site, here. My Internet Service Provider only allocates a certain number of hours each month, and I must have reached my limit. It was probably due to leaving the computer connected, when not at the keyboard - particularly while sleeping. That probably caused several lengthy sessions, which ate up my time.

Pah.

Anyway, I'm back. So sorry for the absence.

Currently I play KJCs excellent Phoenix game and have been for the last 17 years.
I'm waiting patiently for the restart of Midgard in the UK.
I've also been reading Jon O's Rimworlds forum and I like what I see!

Has anyone played Realms of Gondor from turn 2 turn? I just signed up for a game but the forums don't look to active. I'm just curious if anybody has tried it. Once it starts, I post some feedback about it here if anyone is intersted.

I happened upon this site totally by accident awhile back and was led to it looking for Science Fiction Tropes.

It offers a lot of insights into players, game systems, and gaming in general:

Sad Hey everyone!
Posted by: Gamejunkie - 04-20-2011, 04:16 PM - Forum: New to the site? Introduce Yourself - Replies (1)

Hi!
My first PBM game was Duel Masters. I played quite a few different games over the years including Fuedal Lords, Alamaze (my favorite), It's a crime!, and a bunch I can't remember the name of. I stopped playing a year or so after I graduated high school and entered the real world with all the bills that come with that. Then about 8 years ago or so I found a free game called World of Kaomaris and I dabbled in that for a while. If anyone is looking for a great war game that is easy to learn but hard to master I suggest looking at it. I haven't been playing anything for a while now. Real life has kept me pretty busy but I hope to start a game of something soon!
