  newly inspired to PBM!!!
Posted by: ixnay - 06-05-2012, 04:41 PM - Forum: Opinions & General Discussion - Replies (31)

My deepest thanks to BOB MCLAIN for sending me a spare copy of his PBM Universal magazine #1 !!! I never actually had a copy -- just a xerox of one article from it. I am almost literally salivating. It takes me STRAIGHT back to the glory days of PBM, when there were hundreds of professional games out there and many thousands of players.

Bob, if you are ever in the DC area, please let me buy you many beers! (That pretty much goes for anyone else here, but especially Bob for the zine and Grim for this site.)

And now I feel extra sucky for not having posted here lately or contributed to the PBM scene. SO, Bob's generosity and this awesome time-capsule of a magazine have inspired me to renew my once-paramount hobby. I pledge to do the following:

- post here at least weekly
- enter at least one professional PBM game immediately
- troll about for at least one amateur game if I can find one
- never drop out of a PBM game again
- game-log everything here

If others here are up for taking a similar pledge, we can form a gaming league -- Grimfinger's Grognards, or the Knights of PBM, or something. Anyone else want to join me?

  Norberg bulletin - Issue 12
Posted by: Peter - 05-26-2012, 09:31 AM - Forum: News & Announcements - No Replies

A new issue of the Norberg bulletin has been published. In this issue we discuss our experiences from the first beta test:

Welcome to issue 12 of the Norberg bulletin. Time flies by, and the first beta test of Rising Empires has ended. Our beta testers have come up with many good suggestions and ideas; some of them have already been added to the game. Heaven, where gods make war upon each other, is also discussed briefly.

The bulletin can be downloaded at the Rising Empires forum:

  Beta Launch date pushed back
Posted by: Gads - 05-23-2012, 02:05 PM - Forum: Ilkor: Dark Rising - No Replies

We've got some rather sad news with regards to our beta launch that was due next month. Unfortunately we have had to move this out by over 6 months to 9th Feb 2013 :-(

There is some good news however. You are now able to have a sneak preview of the Character Creation process (the signup): http://alpha.ilkor.com

Also we'll be inviting anyone that is interested to take part in our first 'Knowledge Quest' in the coming week or so.

To read more about all this, visit our latest blog entry: http://gadgames.com/blog/?p=333

  New PBM game
Posted by: Erendial - 04-23-2012, 06:00 PM - Forum: Games - Replies (2)

Hello everyone.

At the moment I'm working on a medieval turn based strategy game and it's in beta phase right now, and I need some testers to try it and improve it with me.

I'm trying to make a realistic game as much as it is possible. Please, feel free to e-mail me or message me here.

Smile

  Introducing AGEgames
Posted by: Valetemoria - 03-12-2012, 11:33 PM - Forum: Games - Replies (3)

More precisely, re-introducing AGEgames (strange that it does not appear on the Boneyard or Wiki lists), since I took ownership of the PBeM game system in autumn last year and have relaunched it. Testgames underway and regrowing the player community.

Still work in progress in so far as completing the migration to the new ownership, e.g. embedded GUI links to old site/mail - testing a revised version; and a niggle with Windows 7 that requires a workaround - but hey, Rome was not built in a day.

So, what is AGEgames?. Essentially, a game system with a downloadable GUI for each of the six scenarios:

Age of Conquest - Rome/Carthage era
Medieval - as it says on the tin
Shogunate - Japanese civil war era
Napoleonic - as it says on the tin
Dragonlords - fantasy
Galactic Warlords - Trek Wars themed

The website links:
http://www.agegames.co.uk
- intro site, still being added to
- recent expansion is the dedicated forum (picking up from the 6 existing Yahoo Groups and a neglected Yuku forum) see:
http://www.agegames.co.uk/bbforum

http://www.lords-of-conquest.com
- game scenario web pages access, giving details, screenshots, rules, GUI download and sign-up

The best idea is to have a look, it may get you hooked.

  The Known World
Posted by: Greybeard - 03-12-2012, 09:12 AM - Forum: Games - Replies (6)

The longest pbm game I have ever been in was run by Bruce Douglas. I played in it for some 25 years, from 1983, but it folded permanently when Bruce became seriously ill. It started long before this as a tabletop game with figurines on bases. The players were all locals in Northumberland. Also in The Known World was Phil Barker, who was a major developer of game rules by The Wargames Research Group.

This is nothing to do with the novel of the same name.
