General Discussion about Cluster Wars |

Some threads in this forum section are played-specific, so I figured that having a general discussion thread for the game, Cluster Wars.
I went ahead and created a separate forum thread that I posted as a sticky to the top of the Cluster Wars section, one that contains numerous important links that pertain to the game, so that site users here that play Cluster Wars can locate those particular links more quickly.
Some that are of particular importance, I intentionally posted in larger text, so as to increase their visibility to the forum users on this site.
I hope that this proves helpful to the players of Cluster Wars.
Happy gaming!

Let's use this thread as a feedback channel for the CW moderators to improve the game experience...
SUGGESTION:
Add more information to the ship/colony selection box. Using just the S/C number means you need to go back and forth to make sure you're dealing with the right one. Display the S/C name, type, location, or whatever else to make it more clear.

Cluster Wars Newbie: A Gravity Well of Confusion That Swallows All |

Cluster Wars is a game of Interstellar exploration, colonization and conquest with project management and planning skills becoming ever more valuable as the game progresses. As other Players are encountered, Diplomacy becomes an additional requirement.
- Quote from the Cluster Wars website
In reality, what Cluster Wars is to the uninitiated newbie is a gravity well of confusion. Substantial complexity is an understatement. I have no idea where to start. The documentation is voluminous - and unread. I have been plucked down in this universe, and I know nothing from anything else.
What's a star-faring fellow to do?
Isn't it situations like this that they make cyanide pills for?
Plus, if I read Ixnay's posting in another thread in this forum section correctly, the next turn due date is today.
I've yet to read through the entire Far Horizon rulebook, and now, I am saddled with this monster of a verbose beast. Nothing good can be expected to come from a situation like this, I fear. My galactic days are numbered. I hear the bounty hunters, now, coming for me.
Parts of the interface remind me too much of a spreadsheet - and oh how I detest spreadsheets! Even still, I kindly thank Vern Holford and Jay Colombo for setting me up with a position in this game.
I just wish that I knew what the Hell that I was doing.
But, isn't that always the case?
Right now, the initial taste of what I am seeing, as I browse through the Central Command software's displays, leaves my mouth dry. It doesn't strike me as being particularly intuitive, but in all fairness, I lack any common frame of reference. I am entirely new to the game, and I am certain that, with the passage of time, that will begin to show more and more, as I begin to struggle with trying to issue orders for my position.
Right now, it's all just one big cluster !@#$, a mess of epic proportions, one where confusion holds sway, and holds my empire hostage to the whims of ignorance.
Meanwhile, from the furthermost distant regions of space, from the dimension of Far Horizons, I can almost heard Darkseid mocking me - His laughter coming at my expense.
One small step for man; one giant leap for mankind.
And away we go! Cluster Wars, here I come.

The Elder |

I am starting my own thread to document the existence and the Rise and Fall and Rise and Fall Etc of - The Elder. All within the Cluster Wars of Empyrean Challenge.
I base the existence of the Elder from my current midlife crisis fascination with melodic death metal. Image Finnish Viking-like dudes playing great music with 'angry cookie monster' 'singing' and you get the basis for what I am doing. ALl of the songs seem to be about pain, anguish, loss and more. From this depth, The Elder hope to rise once more and stake their claim on this new horizon.
There were dark times. Times none would want to ever remember, but they will sadly never forget.
Cold. Dark. Pain. Anguish.
In the Halls of Awaiting, The Elder dreamed of a Journey Unknown.....Across the Dark. But what did it mean? At the Gates of Sleep, it was always hard to think, hard to understand. But, he was not one to be Weighed Down with Sorrow any longer. There was a....a...hope, for a New Beginning.
Ruins. Stange objects washed away by rains Where the Last Wave Broke. Was there a Bitter End in The Groves of Death? The was the time that Death Walked the Earth. Men. Women. Old. Young. All wanted to Regain the Fire but did not know how. But they believed. They hoped. They dreamed. In one, The Elder, an Ill-Starred Son, they placed their trust, their dreams and hope.
Time passed. Ages. The Harrowing Years they called them. But in time, there was hope. Into the Woods and Through the Shadows they went in the name of The Elder, and the Daughter of the Moon.
Men became strong. Slowly. Men became many. Men became towns. Men became cities. Men became war. Men fell. Men became hopeless once more. But in The Elder, there was hope. Men listened. Men dreamed. Men grew strong. Men grew....smart. Men became....The Elder.
A proud and fierce people have they become. Always searching, always fighting, always learning, always dreaming, always....remembering. And there was hope. And they were ready.
But were 'they' ready for them? For The Elder?
