  PBM zine cranking up again
Posted by: ixnay - 04-05-2016, 04:20 AM - Forum: Issues of S&D - Replies (1)

I have started oiling up the printing presses to have another go at doing a PBM zine.  GrimFinger has kindly offered to let me handle the next issue of Suspense & Decision.  I am still deciding whether to do exactly that, or to just start up my own zine along the same lines, but with a few changes in scope, layout, etc.

If anyone is reading this (and I do see the odd user popping in here once in a while), here is what I am doing:

1. Establishing a database of PBM-ish game companies and industry contacts
2. Making a list of potential advertisers
3. Reaching out to the usual suspects for content (articles and the like)
4. Putting a layout together

So, if you want, here are some things you can do to help:

1. If you run a PBM-like game (commercial or amateur), please send me a list of the games you offer, some news, and your best points of contact.  Be as wordy or terse as you like.

2. If you would like to have an ad run in the zine, please contact me directly.

3. If you would like to write an article, scan an old turn-sheet, post gossip about a game you're in, or just want to do some verbal navel-gazing, please send it to me.  I will formulate an editorial policy as time permits, but generally the more the merrier.

4. If you have opinions about what you especially liked or didn't like about Suspense & Decision, please let me know.

All correspondence can be sent to me in the following ways:
 - posted here on this forum
 - PMed to "ixnay" on this forum
 - emailed to "pbm.kahuna" at gmail (I am obfuscating the email to discourage spam)

Spam attack - working to restore order
Posted by: ixnay - 03-16-2016, 08:30 PM - Forum: News & Announcements - Replies (4)

Greetings, PBM community!  It's been a while!

I have had to deal with a new job, which has kept me very busy for some time, but there is now light at the end of the tunnel.  Occasionally I have been checking in here to see if anyone is posting.

Today I found the board had been swarmed by spam-bots.  I have deleted many thousands of spam threads and robot users (mostly using russian email addresses), and have many more to go.  I just thought I would clear out this one forum all the way, so I could post and you'd all actually SEE it.

I have temporarily turned off the ability to post here for normal users.  Once I have the spam-bots ejected and their droppings swept away, I will post here again and turn things back on.

More on PBM stuff after this excavation work is done...

  Drakensang Online
Posted by: Greybeard - 02-07-2016, 09:12 AM - Forum: Games - Replies (48)

Drakensang online can be downloaded free from the internet, some 20 mb. I think it is originally German but is available in many languages (some 20 of them), just click the one you want. There are a number of different skills for your character to play. Ranger with a bow, Dragonknight (melee), or Sorceror (magic) are the main categories.

You get to start off with a quest, in which there are a number of routes to success. There are many more that you can access by clicking on a major NPC.

There are several sub-worlds, of different degrees of difficulty, so there is a lot of choice, including several dungeons. Although the game is free, the quality of the game is good, so can be quite atmospheric.

There is a forum which is well-worth reading. You are encouraged to start off with two, three, or four characters as there is a game-based currency (copper, silver, gold and andamant. The latter can be pooled between your characters, and it is clear that many do, to be able to afford upgrading their equipment. I have not done this yet, though I may do so in the future. This video can be visited on u-tube. to get a feel for the game.

  The PBM name
Posted by: Davin - 11-03-2015, 05:54 PM - Forum: Opinions & General Discussion - Replies (3)

I think the term PBM is still valid and useful to a reasonable extent, but for those looking to get away from the "mail" part of the equation, what does anyone think about Play-by-Turn?

Looking for an ongoing, neverending PBM game
Posted by: Orinks - 10-10-2015, 07:45 AM - Forum: New Games Launching - Replies (15)

Hello everyone,
does anyone know an active game similar to quest or an active version of KJC Game's Space Troopers?
I like the flavour text in the quest turn reports, and that goes for Space Troopers as well.
Space Troopers doesn't even have KJC's new order system, so it's hard to input orders. The Phoenix nexus is hard to sign up to as a blind player, as there is some Captcha or something in that form.
I liked the concept of Madhouse UK's Abnormals and I'd hope that other companies would start blog narrative games like this, but Abnormals died off.
So, does anyone know an ongoing, persistent game with good flavour text in turn reports. Fall of Rome seemed particularly interesting because of the novel-like battles, which I have yet to see a sample of. It's GUI interface makes it very hard for me as a potencial blind player as well.
Thanks everyone. Between Phoenix signup issues, Space Troopers not being very active and the wargame style games that dominate this community, I haven't found the one game that I'd both be interested in sticking to and can play as a blind person with either accessible GUIs or an accessible web interface.
Any suggestions?
