Feedback on the Layout and Look of the PlayByMail.Net Website
#1
OK, so here's the deal. Just whenever you feel like it, let me know what you like or dislike about the site here. I am especially interested in your respective opinions on the front page of the site, but would still enjoy hearing back from each of you on things that you think that we are doing right, or things that you think that we're bungling and botching.

Do any of you use the front page of the site, at all? Or do you skip straight to the forum index page? Or is there another part of the site that you are partial to? Are there any portions of the site that you simply avoid or shun?

Thanks in advance for you feedback!

I sometimes use the sections of the front page that are on the side:

PBM Hivemind
General PBM Resources
PBM Companies
Latest Threads
Off-Site Articles

I pretty much never use the giant section in the middle of the front page.

I can eliminate it, or replace it. How about the Welcome box on the upper left side, and the Online Users on the upper right side?

Also, what if I made a dedicated page for the PBM Hivemind section? Or should I leave it pretty much, as is?

I moved the Norberg Bulletin off the front page, primarily because I want to have a section dedicated to publications. the Tweets & Blogs section I'll probably leave, although I want to enlarge it, somewhat.

Like Ram, The mid column is of no interest since I tend to get to the front page from the forum, which is what I have linked to. On the other hand, someone chancing upon the site is the one who needs most top be thought about in terms of what you keep or what you change.

Maybe if the center column included a short snippet of the posts it would be more useful to new visitors, rather than just a title and link.

Hi GrimFinger,

I always enter your site through the front page. Should I head onwards to the forum I generally do this through the "View new posts"-links or the short cuts in the right column. All in all I like the layout and function of your site

I like what you are doing. Keep it up!

Peter
