Question
So how soon will we players be able to become City Leaders?  I know your working on getting all the Clan turn parts running, but I thought I would ask. Huh

I would think honestly in the beginning a clan should have to earn/win the right to run a city. Since there are no seniors and with Independent cities it is even harder to get  city leadership....that position should be earned in game.  I like to roleplay this out and use special actions to do it. Usually I build city buildings for the city like: Eng Bldg, Cul Bldg, Hosp Bldg, Armories, and Guild Halls are rather easy to do. Also other city improvements too like defenses and etc.  Basically you are making the place your home, an investing a lot of time and effort into upgrading the city.  I enjoy that part of the game as well too. Cool

I agree. I don't expect city leadership to be arrived at easily.

The way I do it, I go into a city and learn the character of the city. I use a special action to travel to the different Taverns/Inns and listen to the people and see what the rumors are or what the people are talking about. I might also use another special action and talk to the heads of the different factional offices and temples to get their take of what is going on in the city and what the city might need. Then I might use the 3rd special action to have the clan leader go talk to the City Leader or City Council and talk to them and ask what they might have a need for, any jobs or pressing tasks they might need done. Any buildings they might need built or etc. I might also request a few tasks from the city or Guilds and etc. See what is up with the city and see what is going on locally. It does take time.

Also if we are going to be allowed to just run (3) cousin clans in the beginning, I think that will be a good start.

To stop Abuse maybe the players need to declare what their Primary Faction is this way the GM would know what their primary focus will be and that at a quick glance they can see that Factional Abuse is not happening.

Example: Let's Assume I declared the Boda as my primary faction, and stood up (2) declared Boda clans. The maybe I stood up a Gift religious clan as well. I could have the Gift clan build Gift temples , but also build things for the Boda faction as well. Maybe I would have both of my Boda clans become Boda City Leaders, thus each run a Boda city as well. Then have my Gift cousin clan build Gift temples in both Boda cities but also build stuff within both of those two Boda Cities as well. Thus they would be working together, but also advancing their own factional goals too.

Well with no Bandits or Buccaneers to begin with then I am limited in what I can actually play that I enjoyed. Plus with only being able to play (3) cousin clans then I need to really be selective before I can even choose.

I guess I should ask the GM then, can I make a request when I start the game to be placed in a region where "x" ,"Y", and "Z" are. Example if I said I wanted to be located near a city that was also near water and in the South of Midgard, and was Independent could I do that?

I'd like to do some beta-testing in a limited area first.  When we're ready to go "live" I'll let you re-decide what to do with your clans (including replacing them completely if desired) and get you moved into a reasonable position on the mainland.

Any clan (but especially independents) should be able to perform bandit-like activities and do some of the same things that bandits do without having to have a formal title at this point.  The whole situation with limiting factions will be much more relaxed if we can get enough players playing at once.

Remember Davin there are three gamer types for this game:

1st - War Gamer /Combat junkie

2nd- Builder (lone player that sits and builds)

3rrd - Role-player (digs into things and explores)

Of course there are combinations that also exist too.

What age is the game set, Bronze Age? Can we research Steel age weapons? What about Greek Fire, and Gunpowder? I know it will take a long time but a technology well worth exploring.

I'd rather not get into more advanced weaponry, at least not in the foreseeable future.  That would give the game an entirely different flavor.

What NO Secret of Steel? Within Zan's Midgard USA he resolved this by giving HI & MI +1 Damage, +1 Defense, and LI got + Damage as well as LM, MM, HM all got +1 Damage as well. You see both the Cymru and Skelts looked into the Secret of Steel and figured it out, Plus any Steel based armor type was defined as "S" added before so SHI,SMI,SLI etc. Now Greek fire was discovered, and Gunpowder was also just discovered in the game as well. Now I should point out that when the Imperials invaded they had Steel weapons, but the Imperials of Midgard now do not have Steel (having lost the secret).

As it was said these each took like 1-2 years of in-game SAs to research and develop these technologies.
