Player communications
#1

I'd like to use this forum to answer any Midgard gaming questions you have, particularly about features of our new implementation.

For instance, in the old days if you wanted to get in touch with another player to discuss coordination of turns, you had to send in a paper 3x5 card in the mail to be forwarded to them in their next monthly cycle report.

On the web, this is handled differently.  Instead, you have a screen with which you can send a personally-anonymous private message directly to their game screen.  This uses their clan name for delivery and your clan name as sender and does not reveal any of your personal information.  You may, of course, tell them who you are and how to contact you if you wish more direct communication, but that's not necessary to get real-time messages across.

Such incoming messages appear on your game screen on the web the next time you visit.  However, on each player's Talisman Games profile there is an option where you can select to be notified by email when such messages arrive for you.  If you have that turned on then incoming messages are forwarded to your email instantly, so you can respond rapidly.

Hello Davin,

Could you list each faction that you will be available within your version of the Midgard game? Also can you state the start up process that you will be following? Will everyone start as a Independent clan, and will they need to choose weather they are a Land based startup or a Naval based start up clan. Also can you further define what each startup clan will have in the way of Unassigned retainers/men, and what resources these two types of startup clans will have?

Next what about the options of Bandit, Pirate, and Heretic declared clans? Also what about skills, what are the plans for them?

We are all excited to play Midgard again!

Greetings!

Well, from previous discussions it sounds like I'm going to have to review all the factions and their goals in detail before we go live, but I'd like to begin with just base, simple factions and grow later as we get enough interest.  I'm probably going to avoid most of the factions created in other implementations to start, but some may be added after beta testing and before we open up the continent.

The revival has been terribly slow due to lack of real-world time available, but when we get there we're planning on starting with a little beta testing using experienced Midgard players as guinea pigs (so they can tell me what we've done wrong).  We'll create a new, small island off the coast of the mainland somewhere and put the beta testers on that.  Hopefully they'll be able to run around a bit and do common things to exercise the new code.  I expect we'll do a lot of coding changes at that time.

No ships will be available to leave the island or do anything naval during this time.  When we feel safe enough to "go live", we'll move your clans to the coast or let you start your clans over, as desired.

I'm expecting to start everyone as Independent and let them choose factional alignments whenever they're ready (including immediately).  All clans will begin as land-based and naval activity is not planned until the clans (or cities) put together enough crowns to build ships.

We have not decided on any particular start-up options for the clans, but they'll likely be relatively small so that you have something to build up to.

Bandits and Pirates will be NPCs to start - villains for you to oppose.  But we may add options to allow player clans to participate in the future.

Davin,

It might be a good idea for you to post a defined description of your take on each of the starting factions so we the players know better what you have in mind for your version of these factions within your version of the game. We do not want to assume anything, and want to play the factions as you feel they should be played and stand for (goals).

Skills we're not going to have to start with.  Those will have to be considered later along with their effect on play and game balance.

I don't have a good enough feel for the factional details yet.  This will have to wait until beta testing is around the corner.
