Trying to access the primary e-mail account which I used to use a lot, but I have no clue what the password is, nor even how to reset it.

I wonder if, when I allowed the domain name to temporarily expire, whether it auto-nuked the e-mail account.

I'd guess that it was likely inaccessible from your domain loss, but it could have come back and/or just not been reactivated yet.  I'd suggest you contact your ISP directly and see what they have to say.  If it's there they should be able to activate it and change your password.  If not, they should be able to recreate it.
