This far, the Regular Expression field plug-in appears to be holding fast, keeping the spambot hordes at arms length, acting as a gate keeper, of sorts, for the site's forums.
I installed it, initially, on another site that I run. There, not a single spambot registration has occurred in the full week since I installed it there. In the week since I installed it here, we have had good success with it, as well. A couple of days ago, I modified the new user registration process for the forums, here, and it now asks users two additional questions made possible via this plug-in. Consider it to be sort of a double-layer of protection from the spam zombies. Spambies!! I wonder if I've coined a new word?
Apparently not, following a quick search using Google. Curses! Foiled again!!
But, as long as the spam bot zombies don't breach the registration process, then we should have sanctuary, here. That's the object, anyway.
Poor Mark Wardell, over at the
PBM Gamer website. His site continues to be plagued by the spambot zombies. He keeps fighting back, but they just keep on smashing their way through his set-up, there.
