More Detailed Plan Views of Locations

Continuing with my ongoing plan to improve the graphic content of The Isles, I've completed mapping of the major and minor settlements in the Ilanthor region of the game, and I'm now starting to do plan-view representations of places of interest, such as static encounters and places of interest. Attached is an image showing what the Ravine passing through the main town of Ilanthor looks in relation to the houses and other buildings that overlook it. There's going to be about 120 plan views which I'll probably process as players get close to these locations - so forty have been created NOW and the rest will be created over the next six months or so.

Also attached is an image of Dead Mans Fort to show the two differences in scale - the Fort shows the entire settlement while the Ravine image shows a POI within a larger Town.

Our newsletter for The Isles is out - Its a cut-down version of a couple of pages as I'm prioritizing processing turns and updating a number of info sheets and Guides. Turnaround remains less than 7 days while we update Maps, improve forms used for turnsheets and have a general tidy

A above - we're taking on a few more players if anyone is interested - see the-isles.com for more info and browse to Startup Materials for what you need to start playing. Note that unlike a lot of PBMs The Isles is a rules-lite hand-moderated RPG game and is quite different to the turn-card style of game that you see a lot of - Have a look at the samples etc on the website before deciding if you wish to play :-)

Caer Point - Map Labels

I've not added labels to my maps in-game but I think I'm missing something there as they add a little more interest and make the Towns and Villages of the region more 'explorable' if you can identify places of interest. Basic example attached - This is a watch post a days walk south-west of the main town in the game

The re-draws continue… I’ve really hated the current Map of the region around Ilanthor, so I’ve completely re-done it.. well, it IS raining outside and I need to do something creative rather than just watch TV!! Small section below (due to uploading restrictions) and the full Maps on the front page of The Isles website at www.the-isles.com

Wow. Indie Spin, one of our new players has just sent us a PDF with one of the first The Isles adverts in Black Knight fanzine. Hard to believe that its almost 30 years old!

Turnsheet Format

Here's the final format of turnsheets we'll be using for PBeM players - PDF seems the most generic document formats that I can find and you can embed graphics etc into the pages. They also seem to compress down to a good size

I've just about got enough Players for the next few months - I've had nothing back from the 3 or 4 people on the PBM.net who expressed an interest - If you're wanting in it needs to be soon as it'll be a good 4-6 months after this before I take on any more.

A world first for The Isles - we now use Watercolours!!

Yes .. It's true. After feedback and input from our players and the use of technology we're altering our location graphics from boring old photos to (wait for it) Watercolour Pictures.

We've been using graphics we can drop onto a Players Turnsheet for a long time - usually a graphic and an explanation of what a player sees on their travels without the GM hassle of having to type it all out every time for each player

Attached is one of our images we use for a regularly visited place close to the main town of Ilanthor, now amended to a watercolour

Next month? Maybe audio attachments in the PDF...?
