I signed up for Takamo a loooong time ago, as a "Miner" player-type. I had some important questions on the rules for mining, though, and the moderators never responded. Looked like it would have been fun to play more, had it been fully operational.

It is open again, and for free while they are designing the MMO version. You can go to www.takamouniverse.com/takamo

Probably because I replaced the main page of the site with a blog, a few weeks back.
It does display a few message threads on it, but I'm not sure how frequently that that part of it updates.

The old front page (portal page) will display the newer postings on it, if you prefer that.
